Throughout history, emeralds have been one of the most captivating precious gemstones of all. Its intense and striking green color is used as a symbol of greatness and important characters, such as Queen Cleopatra, have been great bearers of them!

One of the main characteristics of emeralds is their "gardens", which are made up of large inclusions that give the stone beauty and identity. 

However, we must take into account that by having a large number of inclusions, usually higher than the rest of the gems, emeralds are more fragile, requiring certain special care that we will detail below:

1) Store your jewelry with emeralds separated from gems like diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. 

Emeralds are located at positions 7.5 - 8 on the hardness scale created by Mohs. Therefore, minerals that are in a higher number than this can scratch the surfaces, affecting their beauty and stability.

2) Beware of heights! 

An emerald that falls on the floor is prone to cracking, so we recommend handling it carefully when storing or holding it.

3) Avoid contact with extremely high temperatures!

High temperatures created by fire -either by a lighter, a campfire, or the like- or even very hot water can affect the color of the emerald, giving it a white and opaque hue. 

4) Do not make strong crafts with them!

Simple and routine tasks such as washing the dishes or doing some kind of sport can be harmful to an emerald. This is because a strong blow can crack it.

5) Do not bring them near chemicals!

We recommend that you do not use them when you go to the pool and be careful that they do not come into contact with substances such as acetone, perfume, alcohol, and abrasive surfaces that could affect their beauty.

6) Clean them only with warm water and soap!

The use of ultrasound machines, steam cleaners, alcohol or other chemicals can be highly damaging.

But don't worry, if you follow these rules of care, your emeralds will always have that attractive color that represents them! It's just that some beauties require special attention!
